Purple Czech Buttons

The purple Czech art glass buttons I've been waiting for arrived this morning!!!  They are even more beautiful than I thought they'd be.
Here are the small 17mm round swirl buttons:

The aurora effect is stunning- I just love them!

And these are the hearts with crystal accents:

These may be used on the purse project.  The Valdani "Violet Meadows" thread looks fabulous with them.
Guess I'll be busy playing this weekend!

Well, I would be even busier playing IF my bead and misc. supply order would come in.  I have the company tracking it- it seems as though my rather large order has been "lost".  This is the first time I've ordered from this company and I will NOT be using them in the future.  Yes, I am most put out. Oh well... no reason to let that prevent me from enjoying playing with my new goodies.  I'm off to tat and bead.  Have a marvelous weekend doing something that makes your soul sing!  I intend to.  And I hope to get an earring pattern up this weekend.  Until next time~
Happy Tatting!

Off On A Tangent

I had planned a day full of tatting new creations, but it was not to be.
As you know, I prefer to tat outside in my Piney Woods.  The wind was so gusty and harsh today that this was just impossible.  I had to settle for indoor creativty.  While I had every intention of tatting, I ended up beading and gathering more Christmas materials for future designs.

This is the necklace I made for myself today:

It features a sterling silver Claddagh my husband gave me years ago with an assortment of freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystal bicones (each of various sizes).  The necklace was hand knotted using Valdani luxury pearl silk in "Subtle Elegance" and has a simple sterling silver hook clasp.

After making the necklace, I proceeded to rummage through my bead, button and thread stashes for materials to use for Christmas themed projects.  Here is a little sampling of what I dug out:

As you can see, I have plenty of thread, Swarovskis, pearls, seed beads, and Christmas fabric.  What I am low on is buttons.  I did have lots of red antique buttons.  Guess I've used them.  Oh, well...it's another excuse for antiquing/junking!  Another thing I did have plenty of was jingle bells.  I know I have oodles- I just can't find them.  They are probably hiding in plain sight!

The Piney Woods Harvest Event ends soon- November 16th is the deadline.  Be sure to click the google "Join this Site" button to follow the blog & have a chance to win the wonderful items up for grabs!

It is time for me to get busy tatting since I've neglected it most of the day.  Let's hope I have something better to show you Friday!  Until then~
Happy Tatting!

And The Winner Is

ELLEN!
Congratulations, Ellen!!!
Will the Ellen who left a comment on yesterday's Treat post please email me or contact me via private message on InTatters?  I would like to get your Halloween ornament in the mail to you ASAP!

I spent the day playing with beads.  It has been a while since I beaded on the loom, so I did a small strip to use on a future tatting needle book.  Pictured below is the 100% wool felt that I will use for the interior pages of my needle book, the beaded srtip and a dyed paua shell cabochon that I beaded around and added tatting to.
As you can tell, I had a good time playing!  Here is a better image of the cabochon:
The cabochon was glued to a foundation of heavy innerfacing, enhanced with beading, then tatting.  I used the last bit of some Valdani 35 wt. quilting cotton I found in my remnants stash.  I'll have to look on the site to see what the exact color # is.  I may change out the tatting I did with a different color.  (I placed another Valdani order earlier this week!)

Tomorrow I am planning a trip to my favorite local quilt shop in search of some fabric for the exterior of my tatting needle book and also for some festive Autumn yoyos.  Let's hope my quilt lady is not gone to a show or other event and is open for plundering..er..shopping.  I'll share my new acquisitions with you tomorrow.

Don't forget: the October Event is still going on!  For your chance to win, follow my blog by clicking on the google "Follow this Site" button located to the right of the blog just below the poll.

Until tomorrow~
Happy Tatting!

Step Two of Tatted Necklace Project

I've gotten a fair bit done on the next round of the necklace.
This is a really easy round to do.  Run the needle through any side - of any R & Ch9-(with 3 beads)9 CL, run the needle through next R's -, carrying the newly made chain across the beaded top of the foundation R.  Use your fingers to shape and neaten your work.
The piece pictured above is another foundation necklace tatted to a little over Opera length (36+ inches).  It was done with Sulky Blendables size 12 quilting cotton in "Lime Sherbet" and is enhanced with size 10 Ornela Czechoslovakian seed beads in "Cream Pearl".  I will be doing a different elaboration on this foundation later.  Stay tuned for further developments...
Here are the two necklaces draped over a pine cone.  The ecru tatting on my blouse (used as a handy backdrop) was done by my great-great grandmother.  A few years before her death, my grandmother gave me a box filled with tatted and crocheted edgings done by various great- great & great grandmothers.  If she knew who did what, I used a safety pin and attached a label to it.  I love to wear my own work, but it always makes me feel special to wear something one of my grandmothers made.  They have given me the most precious legacy- the ability and inspiration to create needle art!
Until tomorrow...
Happy Tatting!
