Button Give Away Event

Blog theme for September~
Buttons!
Good morning, dear readers!
Back in August, as I was cleaning out the Atelier, I came across multiple button stashes.  After culling what I plan to use in my own work, I thought a give away event of the remaining buttons would be fun.

As you can see, the buttons are in four snack sized zip-loc bags.  They are mainly vintage plastic, MOP and a few shell buttons.  I have not cleaned them, but have tried to put a variety in each bag.

So, how are we going to do this event?  Well, all you need to do is leave a comment on this blog post stating what you might use the buttons for.  There will be FOUR winners who will be selected via random number generator and announced on the September 27th blog post.

Since I've been playing with the buttons and having lots of fun with them, I decided that the September blog theme will be Buttons!  On the next blog post, I will have images of a few newly finished pieces you've seen the beginnings of and images of some of my button projects.

What are you working on, my dear readers?  What goodies are you tatting for Fall?  There are lots of works-in-progress in the Atelier, but I am also crocheting a wrap and a skinny scarf.  I've additionally been working on some sketches for hand embroidery designs.

Rosie Fey is spinning at the door, so I had better take her out and play for a bit. Otherwise, Rosie will not leave me alone to tat!  Be sure to leave a comment on this blog post for your chance to win one of the FOUR button goody bags!  Until next Friday~
Happy Tatting!

  1. You just never know when a good button will be needed in a tatted motif! You have different colours in those bags, which offer some great choices. : )

  3. I've learner to put buttons in tatting through Tatters Across Time and would now love to try some pretty accessories for my granddaughters' hair. And I just love to just sit and look through my grandmother's button box.

  4. I'm so charmed to find a tatting blog. I'm a knitter and quilter, and would use the buttons as trim on mittens. I know how to tat, but having taken up a shuttle in years.

  5. Great giveaway Rachel. I would use the buttons in some tatting items. I like to do hearts with a button in the center and some crosses.

  6. I would use them for tatting. I like to make Jane Easter egg with them and little pins. I would also share them with my students when they learn to make a simple pin with rings. Sure do miss seeing your blog, every day.

  7. I've never tried tatting around buttons so that would be something I'd love to do! Another thing that I like the look of is tatting a "loopy" bracelet with a few buttons on every single loop. With enough buttons it would both sound and look pretty! Thank you for the chance to win. :)

  8. What a wonderful and generous thing to do Ms Rachel. I love buttons! I have been using buttons in a lot of my tatting. I use them for crosses which I donate to the church camp for them to sell and use the profits for camp scholarships. I have been also working with the Celtic shuttles trying to get the picture in my head to come out in a new snowflake design. Besides that I have been crocheting washcloths and towels. I am also practicing with needle tatting. I am gonna get the hang of it one of these days!!

  11. I'll say it too, great selection of buttons and no one can have too many. I'd love a chance to win. I quilt and I'm a new tatter too, self taught and learning new things every day.

  13. Cool find!

I've been rather busy and am slacking in tatting (not to mention other crafts). :P These buttons seem to be smiling at me. Would be lovely to create some small motifs around them. For the longest time, I've been trying to get my hands on buttons for tatting, but haven't had the chance to. This might be it! :)

  14. In my pattern stash I have a pattern for a Celtic teapot that uses buttons (cute teapot, too), and a couple patterns for brooches (pins) that use one or more buttons. I would like to try tatting a bracelet or possibly a necklace using buttons, also. I tat almost every day and always have at least 2 or 3 projects going at a time - one for those times when you have to 'wait' patiently until you're called, one big project that 'lives' next to my favorite chair because it's too big to drag everywhere I go while I'm working on it, and - often - one more project that I use when I want to take a break from the other projects - gives me a chance to look at a different color for a while, or work on a different pattern.

I enjoy your blog. Your tatting is beautiful. It's hard to wait a whole week between posts. Love hearing about Rosie Fey, also. ;-)

  15. Too funny, I was going to say the same thing Stephanie W said about the Celtic teapots....especially since the theme of next years Palmetto tat Days is "tatting, tea and toffee". Stephanie is a friend of mine and I guess "great minds" think alike.

  16. Nice assortment of buttons there. Without actually holding them in my hands to get exact sizes or exact colors, kind of hard to say what they would be used for if I was lucky enough to get a pack of them. But I am having thought of tatting around them into motifs, then connect the little motifs and making them into bracelets. Oh I am sure there are many, many ways to use them. Thank you for your give-aways. I also miss reading your blog daily. But schooling and family is very important, so I understand.

  18. I love tatting with buttons, a problem I have had lately is I can't seem to find any. I know in the past (before I started tatting) I have seen great buttons everywhere, now that I know what I would want them for they have disappeared... :(

I have done, pendants, brooches and bracelets with the few buttons I have. I would love to have more so I could do some earrings, a necklace and more bracelets. Thank you for your generosity.
