Winter Blossom Motif No. 4

Winter Blossoms
Good afternoon, dear readers!
I finished the Winter Blossom Motif No. 4 last night.

It makes a nice pendant, doesn't it?!?  I am considering doing a few of these in different threads with assorted accent beads for the Atelier Shoppe.  What do you think?  Several folks have asked me to do an Etsy store, but I am not so sure.  I know some people who have had their original work ripped off from their Etsy store listings.  Not sure I care to have that headache- I'm VERY protective of my work.  Especially OOAK couture pieces!  Do any of you, dear readers, have an Etsy store or insights you'd care to share?

The FREE pattern is still on my to do list.  I was not happy with the counts on the second round and have ripped them out & will re-do it this weekend.  Please check back early Monday morning for the next FREE pattern post.  I think you'll like the design.

I don't know about y'all, but I am so ready for the weekend!!!  Jim, Jocie & I plan to spend some quality time at home.  Things have been very hectic and stressful this new year and we need to have a quiet family weekend.  I plan to tat to my heart's content, cook a huge batch of venison chili, and finish a couple of hand embroidery designs I've been working on.  What are your plans?  Anything interesting???

Well, I'm off to the grocery store for the necessities.  Have a wonderful weekend and be sure to look for the FREE Winter Blossom pendant pattern on Monday's post.  Until then~
Happy Tatting!

  1. Hi Rachel,

I have an Etsy shop, and here is my $0.02: If something is on the internet, it will be copied. Whether it is on Etsy or not is immaterial.

It may be true that Etsy products are frequently copied as the site has experienced a high amount of publicity, but I would not use that as an indicator of whether or not to use the site. I would base that decision on your acceptance, or not, of its fees, customer service, and ease of use.

    Hope that this helps!

  2. Your colors are beautiful. I could see this in a smaller thread size as a pair of earrings to go with the pendent!

  3. I like the pendant and Phyllis is correct, a set of earrings would go very well.

I have an etsy shop, it is empty at the moment, I sell tatted and sewen items.
There are fees, and that depends on how you want to handle your sales. I know that you sell your items on your website, so you might not be interested in etsy unless you want to increase your sales. Etsy is well known and basically your advertising is free. on your website, I don't know how you handle advertising or search engine listings.

  8. I am new to tatting so I frequently try to make things that others have designed, for the practice. I would never try to sell them, I keep them for myself. When trying to create something of my own, I've used the antique patterns as inspiration and several times I've come up, inadvertantly, with very similar designs as someone else who is very well established. I do not sell my craft as yet, I'm still learning. I have given as gifts and made for myself and so far that is all. I'm still very confused about how much I can modify something before I can call it my own. I think we all have used the free antique patterns available online as inspiration I'm sure.

I also agree with the first post: If it's online, it will be copied. Whether it's a meme passed around Facebook or a craft pattern, someone somewhere will make it and claim it's their own work. That's the nature of the internet. It sounds like you should probably stick with your current method of selling your work as Etsy seems to be a hotbed of folks ripping off others' work. I have honestly never been to Etsy except to buy something from an artist.

  9. I just found your site and am wondering if you're still tatting? I'd love to try your Winter Blossom #4 pattern if it's still available.
