November Musings

Blog theme for November~
"Transitions"
Good morning, dear readers!

It is rather chilly in the Piney Woods this morning.  I must say that Autumn is my favorite season.  It has inspired me to make some long needed adjustments and tweaks to how my work is presented and made available for purchase.  As mentioned on the blog previously, I prefer to do OOAK pieces. My focus is currently on that aspect of my work along with deciding whether or not to stick with my current website host, and what is the best vehicle for selling my work online.  There are several options up for consideration at the moment and I am uncertain which direction is the right one for my artwork and creative temperament.  I will say that the wholesale offers I've received are absolutely ridiculous.  There is no way I will wholesale my OOAK pieces!  And I will not allow anyone to "convert" my original designs into patterns for embroidery sewing machines.  While I have nothing against those who use such machines, my work is totally handmade and I take GREAT offense to it being "converted" to a digital pattern for a machine to make.

Aside from these tatting issues, we've been busy enrolling our daughter in the next semester of online college classes.  Let me tell you, it is just as involved as registering for regular college courses!  At least we've got that done and are awaiting her class schedule.

Well, Rosie Fey is ready for our morning run.  After our run, I plan to spend the morning tatting away in the tatting shanty with a rich, steamy mug of gourmet hot cocoa.  I will post images of new OOAK pieces soon.  My favorite places for taking images are soaking wet from a recent rain and I do not dare put any of this work on it.  Maybe it will dry out enough this afternoon or at the latest, this weekend.  May you have a wonderful week full of tatting adventures.  Until the next time~
Happy Tatting!

Taking Inventory

Renovations
Good morning, dear readers!
Jim got a bit more done on our home network last night.  I'll be glad when he is done.

I managed to get the buttons sorted and have made a list of buttons to keep an eye out for as I go on antiquing/junquing jaunts.  I have a lot of vintage plastic buttons that may be used for Christmas ornaments/gifts.  And I am considering hosting a give away event with buttons and other items I'll cull as I clean and renovate this month.  What do y'all think?  Are you interested???

Today's main chore is taking a very thorough thread inventory and making out lists of what I need to reorder.  I may find some thread to put in a give away- you never know what I'll find in the Atelier or shanty!

Well, I'm off to the shanty to dig in the thread boxes and cabinets.  Have a marvelous day & until tomorrow~
Happy Tatting!

Chore Day

Pearls & Lace
Good afternoon, dear readers!
With all the garden work we did this weekend, I was woefully behind on our laundry.  I have spent an exciting day washing, hanging out, ironing and putting up laundry.  At least I will have clean, fresh towels for my beauty bath this evening!

There are still a couple of thread cabinets left to be culled and I plan to work on them this afternoon.  Perhaps I will be able to sort through the culled thread, organize it by color and type & take some images for posting on FB.  I realize that there really is no such thing as too much tatting thread, but I have a small in-house Atelier and a tatting shanty- which means limited storage space.  I am loving tatting with Valdani Luxury Pearl Silks and plan to use it a lot.  Their pearl cotton is nice, too, but my favorite thread is the VLPS!  I need more room for my silks.

Jim is looking into making a nice set of handcarved and dovetailed thread cabinets with drawers customized for the silk spools.  I can't wait to see what he comes up with in his preliminary sketches.

Well, I have a couple more pairs of jeans to press over & put up before I tackle those last thread cabinets.  Have a great day & until tomorrow~
Happy Tatting!

What A Weekend!

Jim and I had a wonderful and very enjoyable weekend.  With the kid at her grandparents, we were free to go on a rare "date night".  After enjoying dinner & a movie, we made our list for the home improvement store and got a good night's rest.  The remainder of the weekend was spent installing various organizational products in Jim's woodworking shop.  Now he can get on the long list of projects I have for him!
We plan to spend the coming weekend clearing and prepping for my tatting shanty in the woods behind the house.

I did stop by Hobby Lobby Friday night and picked up a few skeins of DMC perle cotton.  This is what I did this morning:

I'll finish it up today and possibly post the pattern tomorrow or later in the week.
What did you do this weekend?  Tat anything interesting?  Recharge your batteries?  See to any of the tatting resolutions you made?

Guess I had better take the dogs for their run through the woods.  Lily Fey is spinning at the front door- her eyeballs must be floating.
Have a wonderful day.  Until tomorrow~
Happy Tatting!
